T H E   CHURCH

Many people today understand the church as a building, a denomination or an institution. It is none of these. The word “church” comes from the Greek word ekklesia which is defined as “an assembly” or “called-out ones.” The root meaning of “church” is a called out people - called out from the world to the person of Christ. (1 Peter 2:9) The word 'assembly' is a good one word translation of 'ekklesia'. It is vital to remember that the church is the body of Christ and he is its Head. It has only one head and He is in heaven. It comprises all the believers in Christ from the day of Pentecost until the return of Christ. The local comprises believers who
